The Garden of Remembrance opening ceremony was held on 2 September 2012. The original concept brief is as follows:

The Garden of Remembrance Project was initiated by the late Frank Manley as a place of contemplation and repose, a memorial to the community and those who built it and have subsequently departed.

The area is located between the Courtyard Hotel and the Manor House (Chinese School), bounded by a service road of Valkenberg Hospital. The site is tranquil and shady with some existing large and smaller trees.

The aim is to erect a series of low ,simply articulated walls, on which small plaques of our dearly departed peoples names can be placed. A memorial stone will form the focus of the garden.

The edges of the space will be strengthened by more trees and groundcovers (to eventually form hedges) as well as to visually block out the surrounding neighbours.

The ground surface treatment will be a small diameter pigmented gravel with an edge treatment of stone.

Benches will be strategically placed under trees and near walls of remembrances.
