WPCA is extremely fortunate to have premises in a central area that is a natural and historical environment. This provides a great place for all the activities linked to the groups within and associated with WPCA, giving the community a physical presence.
As WPCA does not run as a profit-driven organisation, it requires fundraising and donations in order to maintain and keep the premises. The Building project looks at the maintenance and upgrades for the Chinese Community Centre. Where possible, WPCA aims to get the community involved in new and existing projects.
Here are the previous, current and future building projects:
Acoustic Hall Panels – 2009 The acoustic hall panels were completed in December 2009. It was a community-based initiative where many were involved to conceptualise and create a cost-effective solution. A special thanks to: Eddy for managing the project! Gary and Julie Chu for finding a donor for the covering material! (and helping in the hall!) Easlane Gin for super efficient help in sourcing materials ! Bruce Hong for his expertise and experience in tools, sound and building things! ‘precision’ isn’t his 2nd name, it must be his 1st! Horace Quat for his ability to help all the time and in doing an enormous amount of leg work on his own, including buying materials and woodwork! Sidney Chong for assisting us with the metal work and allowing us into this workshop! Alain Coue, Victor Timkoe, Greg Lee Son for lending us hi tech laser levelling stuff! Jeff Lai Lam lend us a portable compressor for the staple gun(and saved a few hands)! Barry Radloff for his unstinting support both from WPCSA and him and Lauren physically! Greg Lok, the master of the plans actually got to work at the dirty end! Greg has been at this since the start and he was there at the end! Now the helpers came in all sizes and may have done as little as lend us a staple gun to spending multiple sessions toiling in hot weather with tedious tasks! In no particular order: Andy Young, Alvin Barkhuizen, Barry and Lauren Radloff, Bruce and Lisa Hong, Horace and Amanda Quat, Cilla, Samantha and Martin Lee Pan, Francis Chung, Bruce Chen, Clinton and Raymond Forlee, Daphne Manley, Colin Pow Chong, Robert Ting Chong.
Building Project Report 2009/2010 The Building Project Report presented at the 2009/2010 AGM is available here. Projects such as the acoustic hall panels, access road and Garden of Remembrance have also been highlighted in separate posts with photos.
Access road problems A project in the future involves the access road up to the front gate of the premises. The gravel experiences high erosion in the winter rainfall period.
